Everywhere you look, you will find that the disadvantages of smoking are present and advertised in the hope that people will give up smoking. We all know that smoking is bad for us and that it can cause all sorts of health related problems. But when you need willpower and stamina to be able to give up smoking, it can be harder to say than to actually put into practice. Here, we are going to go through the reasons why smoking is so bad for you. Hopefully one of them will hit a nerve and give you the boost of willpower that you need to become smoke free.
There are many disadvantages of smoking and most of them relate to your health. It is difficult to know which one will make you change your mind about smoking and really give you the drive to give up. So we have decided to group them into two categories.
Smoking not only increases the risk of cancers (including both lung, mouth and throat) but can also cause problems for your veins and arteries. They become hard and stiff meaning that blood can’t pass through them properly. It also means that fat can’t pass through them and clogs them up. This can lead to strokes and heart attacks. It can also reduce the blood flow to your fingers, toes, arms and legs and can even result in amputation.
As well as the usual problems such as smelling of smoke, dull looking skin, yellowing teeth and brittle hair and nails, smoking can also cause a slightly embarrassing problem. Because of the reduced blood flow (see above), this means that not all of your extremities can get the blood when they need it, sometimes this manifests itself into erectile dysfunction. Combine that with yellow stained fingers and a hoarse voice and you have yourself some disadvantages of smoking that will affect you every single day.
So now that you are aware of some of the problems that come with smoking both long term and short term, maybe you can see how these problems affect you. If they are problems that you want to avoid then you should really consider ways that you can give up smoking and see if you can find the strength to do it for both your health and your future. These problems don’t have to plague you your whole life so why not do something about it today?
